9 Gruesome Things That Were Perfectly Normal a Century Ago

Arranged marriages were quite normal

Here comes the bride, dressed all in white…what a sight for the groom and guests. Imagine seeing the person you will be spending the rest of your life with – for the first time – while walking down the aisle or waiting at the end of the aisle. Talk about first encounters!

Well, in many cases, that’s how people got married in the past centuries. Marriage was just a formal arrangement between families for men to have heirs and for less wealthy families to reach social status and gain. Marriage between minors was also quite common. The minimum age for marrying was whatever the parents or legal guardian decided it should be, which meant very young brides and/or grooms.

In this day and age, according to the Centers for Disease Control, approximately six percent of American women get married by the age of 18; 100 years ago, around 12 percent of all American girls between 15 and 19 were married, says historian Nicholas Syrett.

  1. China does that (child work abuse) TODAY and the Democratic Party, Entertainment Industry and Professional Sports ALLOW it to happen.

  2. Not sure we have improved much, drug use increased, killing fetus started, killing thousands of potential babies,
alcohol use way up, highway deaths way up, now we have a pandemic killing thousands, wars killed thousands,
world bad health and poor at all time high. R. Conn
