15 Vintage Photos of Our Astonishing National Parks

Andersonville National Historic Site

History lovers who want to blend their love of knowledge with nature might be best suited to visit the Andersonville National Historic Site. It stands as a monument for us to remember all those who perished during the Civil War and, more specifically, the over 45,000 Union prisoners of war who were held here during the final years of confrontation.

Of those 45,000, more than 12,000 died during confinement. The National Park Service keeps their memory alive by documenting and preserving items from the site. Some of these have even been pictured in this 1988 photograph, but you can still see them today!
