15 Vintage Photos of Our Astonishing National Parks

Mammoth Cave National Park

This picture of the Mammoth Cave was taken in July 1941, the same year it became a national park. You won’t find any fossils of woolly mammoths here, despite the name. Rather, the cave got its name due to its sheer size even before it was fully explored.

Today, Mammoth Cave is known as the longest cave system in the world, meaning you could spend days exploring its vast network of chambers. The Grand Avenue, Frozen Niagara, and Fat Man’s Misery are just three of the most well-known features that you could visit during one of the several tours offered by the National Park service.
