Samhain was one of the most important and sinister pagan religious festivals of the year when all the dead could return to earth and walk amongst the living. The creatures were believed to cause quite a stir, destroy crops and even being able to take innocent people back to the underworld with them. To avoid being taken, people dressed up as ghosts, ghouls, and other scary creatures and tried to stay safe until morning.
