3. Moore, Oklahoma, on May 20, 2013

The 2013 tornado that ripped through Moore originated from a tornado outbreak — spanning from central Oklahoma down through south-central Oklahoma — that began during the afternoon and evening hours of May 20. The strongest tornado in the group, reaching EF5 status, was the one that devastated Moore. While in the city, the tornado damaged schools and destroyed homes in heavily populated residential areas. The storm also heavily damaged the Moore Medical Center, a post office and many other businesses before it vacated the city and continued its path of destruction.
